Fasting rules and preparation, built into booking
Drawn knows which tests need fasting. It only offers them in the morning, tells patients when to stop eating, and sends how to prepare the evening before. Patients arrive ready, and your team stops rebooking samples that can't be used.
- Mornings only for fasting tests
- Longest fast wins
- Reminder the evening before

How to prepare
- Don't eat for 10 hours before your appointment. You can drink water.
- Wear a top with loose sleeves.
- Drink plenty of water beforehand. It makes the blood test easier.
The problem
A fasting test at 15:00 is a wasted sample
A patient books a fasting glucose test for the afternoon because the slot was free. Either they go without food all day, or they eat lunch and the sample is no use.
With a generic booking tool, someone at your clinic phones them to move it. Drawn stops the booking being made in the first place.

The rules
How does Drawn handle fasting tests?
Each test on your menu carries its own booking rules, and every booking follows them. Nobody has to remember.
Fasting hours
How long patients must go without food, such as 8 or 12. Leave it at 0 for tests that don't need fasting.Latest start time
Such as 10:00. Patients are only offered times before it, so nobody fasts all day.Several tests at once
Drawn uses the longest fast any of them needs, and the earliest latest start time.Patients see why
A Fasting needed tag on the test, and a line above the times: “This test needs fasting, so we're showing morning times only.”
Preparation
Instructions patients actually read
Every test can have numbered preparation steps, such as "Wear a top with loose sleeves". Drawn adds the fasting step itself: "Don't eat for 8 hours before your appointment. You can drink water."
- Under About this test, before they book.
- In their confirmation email.
- In a reminder the evening before, which says when to stop eating.
Emails say "your appointment" rather than naming the test, unless you switch test names on, and texts never name it. See security and UK GDPR.

Ready-written
Tests with the rules already set
The test gallery has ready-written tests with their fasting hours, latest start time, preparation steps, what each test measures and what it can't tell you. Tick the tests you offer, set your price, and change any of the wording. See Your test menu.

Questions
Questions clinics ask
Something else? Email director@hizmedia.com and a real person will reply.
Can patients book a fasting blood test in the afternoon?
Not if you set a latest start time for the test. Patients are only offered times before it, such as 10:00, and see a note explaining that fasting tests are mornings only.
What happens when a patient books a fasting and a non-fasting test together?
Drawn applies the longest fast any of the tests needs, and only offers times that suit every test in the booking.
When are patients told to stop eating?
In their confirmation email, and again in a reminder the evening before their appointment, which also has the test's preparation steps.
Do I have to write preparation instructions for every test?
No. Tests from the gallery come with preparation steps and fasting rules already written. You can change any of the wording.
